As crazy as it sounds, it looks like things are looking good for EP Studios. What started out as a somewhat experimental branch into the music video niche, has turned into two music videos and at least two more planned for production before spring! Not bad for a guy and his camera! Why all the success? Well its probably because im basically doing the videos for free...

"OMG WHAT DID HE JUST SAY!"

Yes, free. Tell your friends, tell your mom, tell your local record producing acquaintances...EP Studios is a non-profit filmmaking organization. Any money made either goes into purchasing better equipment...or donation. That's our word...period.

Still-Hunt

A few days ago Emily St.Pierre, Writer and Director of "Still-Hunt", began posting 5 min parts of the short film on youtube. In total the short film ran about 16 minutes over 3 parts. As a video editor myself, watching the full length version I thought of ways to streamline the short to fit a ten minute length that would work with youtube. In the process I think I reinforced the found footage feel of the short (particularly at the intro).

If you compare the original short to the EP version you will also notice a huge change in the look of the film from a colour and lighting standpoint. Hopefully these changes help to make the film more immersive to the viewer.

Chezz Busters, Careers, and a lot of Studying

The title says it all. That's right folks We have a new title in our hands, careers are thrown down and studying is a pain!

Chezz Busters:

Unfortunately, Were still in the making of Chezz Busters. It is basically about two homeless bums, with lots of hair, chezz, and greasy clothing. There is one man, who looks like an FBI agent and he is enraged by the homeless bums in his town...and he really hates chezz

Careers:

Richard now has a career with Teratech, which is great, he went to school for Electrical Engineering and hes now in a career which does that, and gone for weeks at a time training. Film production may be a long wait, or may take some time to film and put up as expected. Mike is working part time now, trying to pay off his school so he can go back to school and get back into working up to his career.

Lots of Studying:

As I said before, the title says it all...I've been studying my tushy off to become a Correctional Officer/Police Officer...who would have thought there was 8 books, a police manual, and shit piles of corrections notes just to become one?

That's about all there is right now for a quick update, Richard had the just of it last post, and I'm just letting everyone know what we've been up to, if our fans our worrying about us.

Rage Quit Corner

A new segment in the EP word, RQC, will shortly become a frequent media review series local to Moncton. We might talk about Movies, Games, or even radio commercials! Why is it called Rage quit corner? Well you'll just have to wait and see!

Untitled Short Film Project

This one really came out of the blue to be honest. New Yorker Emily St.Pierre, studying in Fredericton, has decided to work with the EP team to produce a 30 min horror film. The short will be shot in Notre Dame NB this September.

Our Part in the production process was heavy in the script development area as well as pre-production organization of the film. We will also be involved with shooting the film as well as acting in it. So far it looks like the post-production will be handled largely by Emily herself.

EP Studios Music Videos

Some time around March or April I put ads on Kijiji Moncton to promote our temporary free video production services in the community. I was shocked at how many local bands and artist responded to the ads. A local country/rock band called Crossover actually hired us to do a zero budget music video for a song called "hammer down". A formal voluntary service agreement was created and signed by both parties and production commenced.

After weeks of waiting it became apparent that the video would have to be put on hold while the actual music track was recorded. And I'm still waiting...lesson learned.

Don't sign onto the video until the music is recorded!

Also, I have learned that the scope of the video projects is important to discuss. A band willing to put time into producing a music video should be willing to invest themselves and their money into the project. I am seeing that people don't seem to take free services seriously enough to get respectable results from to make it worth the effort. In many cases, procrastination and loss of interest have proven to be the better of this production group. Perhaps throwing an investment in can encourage more commitment.

Making the Change

Shaun, Mike and I are at delicate stages. Very little time and energy is still being put into video production. Although Mike and I made a parody of High Stakes earlier in the summer, it was removed due to the fact that it gave away plot points and scenes in the original short film script.

It seems that all of our current projects are in development Hell. Perhaps one day when we have re-gained the position to organize ourselves to return to Effed Productions, we will continue our passion in film. Until then, Shaun must commit to an education, Mike may commit to building a family and I must commit to a career in industrial electronics. God help us...

EP Studios? And upcoming projects.

New name, same great taste!

Hi, once again it has been a while since there has been an update on this blog. Obviously there hasn't been much activity to speak of. It looks like things wont change too much until after Winter exams haha. Anyway, I want to talk about our recent decision to change our logo!

A while back, the idea popped into our minds that perhaps it is possible to make some money through small media production projects in the maritimes. Obviously this is easier said than done. But the basic plan was to begin by improving the credibility of our small-time production group and slowly raise our status to potential production partner!

Our target market? People that want to express themselves in the form of video media but lack the skills needed to do it themselves and also lack the budget to hire expensive professionals! And trust me, they are expensive! After working at a local studio in Moncton I learned that working to high broadcasting standards is very expensive and time consuming. However, but working to lower standards that are appropriate for online media the time needed to produce good results is much less as well as cost of production.

Our product? Inexpensive media production. Short films, music videos, company promos, advertisements, etc. The system works. Currently we are in the stages of compiling more resources for higher quality productions such as better tools and new special effects.

But what about Effed Productions!?

EP Studions is simply a new branch that originates from Effed Productions. Both production branches can co-exist. The "Effed Productions" youtube channel will be home to all of our EP Studios work and Effed Productions work. So not all of our future productions have to live up to the high standards needed to raise our credibility.

Ok, but how will you get credibility? The challenge in generating a name for yourself is that you must at first be willing to do ANYTHING to get started. In our case, we are willing to offer our video production services to anyone for any video production purposes (not including pornographic productions), for free! The theory is that the more we can get out there, the more people will see us and the more likely it is that we will be identified as a media productions solution!

And now our feature presentation.

Over the past few weeks the EP Team has been cooking up a few brand new scripts that may hopefully showcase the new benchmark in our production standards.

Untitled 1 - A short film that actually takes place 100% in a perfectly unlit, pitch black locked room. What can the camera see that the eye does not?

Aftermath (working title) - A new script in production about a few twenty-year-olds that get in trouble with the law when one of them is apparently framed to have murdered someone. This one will keep you guessing until the end!

High Stakes (revisit) - After years of postponing this production we think we may have finally found a good shoot location. A man is tested to the limits of his life in High Stakes!

EP Update:

Well, the past few weeks have been quite interesting. We are now nearing the final weeks of summer vacation and that means EP's already limited video production time will be shrunk even more. Last week was vacation time and thus good times at 6 Flags New England were being had as well as some good old yard party style fun in the states! Upon return came the inevitable bonding time of playing Firefight and Nazi Zombies for 7 hours a day before finally rounding up some camera gear and filming Cooking with Metal (which I will mention later).

Now that it is time to be heading back to work we have been slowly easing into a routine of shift schedules that may potentially work for one last EP release before the end of summer. No promises (I'm sure you have learned your lesson) but High Stakes may be just around the corner.

For those of you who may not know, High Stakes is an original EP script for a short film that was written by Shaun Fleming originally as a short story. The synopsis roughly follows the line of a typical interrogation scenario in which two characters interact with each other in an enclosed, isolated setting. I wont go into details but from what I remember there are only two characters and the style of the story feels somewhat gritty and dark.

If an appropriate film location can be established there is a good chance that film will be made this summer.

Cooking with Metal

As I mentioned above, we have recently released a new video called "cooking with metal". For some of our oldest fans the title might sound familiar. The reason being that cooking with metal was one of the three original EP video scripts ever conceived of back in 2008.

Originally written by Shaun to be filmed in the Culinary lab as BMHS, the video's location, concept, and general nature where all compromised in an early attempt at making the video in 2008. The original, which went into "the abyss" was never released due to poor entertainment quality. Three years later, we have casually re-approached the idea and more cleanly executed it. The video is below.

Well I hope you still enjoy what we have to show you, we know it isn't a whole lot but it's what we've got...

Double Shifts

Well, it has been a while since the last post but a lot has happened since then.

Postman

I (Richard) am now an official intern at the Postman Post-Production Studio based in Moncton. Because of this I work pretty much 70 hours per week or more...because of my real job at Needs...

Anyway, it is really cool and exciting for me but it also means that video production for EP has basically gone down the toilet.

Don't Panic

Speaking of EP videos, a new one was posted today called "Don't Panic".

June bugs!

Well today I saw my fist June Bugs of the year...and other than thinking of how they like to get stuck in my hair or make love with my eyes...they reminded me that summer vacation is near!

With school coming to an end in June and the Mike back in Moncton for the summer, its almost time to start talking about videos.

New members of EP

Although nothing is official, we might be working on a few projects in a few weeks with some new faces to EP. As was planned last year, we will probably be making an AR2 video sometime this summer along with a DON'T PANIC as well as some other short films.

Most recently talks of producing a type of viral/health video have been happening for a local nutritionist that wants to "do something off the wall to send a message". I'm excited to get to work on this project when I get the chance after finals in June.

Speaking of school, we will all be headed back in September except maybe for Shaun who may be working again but were not sure what he's up to. I haven't even talked to anyone in weeks and am very lonely having to go to school all the time :(

Basically keep your eyes open for future videos as always!

Two movies for the Price of One!

Hey, everyone!

We'd like to share some good news and some bad news with ya...Bad news first? Ok, well here goes. Richard and I no longer wanted to participate in the Doritos viral video since we always leave that to the last minute, so we came up with an idea, and thats where the good news comes in.

Two movies are currently on the way to the official EP Youtube channel as we speak, one movie called Night Runners, and the other, Andro1d. You'll understand soon enough, I do not want to spoil it yet! You may actually enjoy them!

Recently, we've gotten some hate mail from people on our fun cover of Megadeths song Dialectic Chaos, and from our AR2 from the abyss videos. I do not tolerate with hate mail, so I put them in their place and tell them off in a polite manner. Hate mail reminds me of people who sit at home all day with nothing better to do with their lives and rate fun movies, like just do what I do, dont comment on them at all.

Here is one of our comments, from the Abyss AR2 video which offended me:
"you have started puberty go get a fucking job shit dick"

But enough of that, check out our new vids when they get posted up! Please no hate mail, you can dislike, but if anyone says something nasty, I wont hesitate to say something back :)

New Unidentified EP Short? And another Dorito's Video?

While trying coming up with idea's to create a Viral Video for Dorito's, Richard and I had a weird idea to come up with an exclusive EP short, it's no serious short, but its probably, how you say effed! We're not going to release further details on that matter since it is a suprise!

Also, we have plans for a second video to submit to Dorito's, the first one, is most likely going to be scraped, but we may still use parts of it. That one could be also a suprise, but here's a hint:

Dorito's Commercial: Round 2

Richard and I are back to our shinnanagins once again, when we enter the Doritos Challenge for the second time!

Last year, we had a great idea, but not enough time to complete it, so we came nowhere near the win, but this year, we could have a chance, and if we succeed we could win up to $250,000! yes that's right quarter of a million!

We are filming this Friday, it's Wednesday now, and we have til March 21,2010 to have it entered so we still have lots of time to create a spectacular video.

Also if we win, not only do we win a big chunk of change, but our video will be used as a commercial and the flavour we chose will be sold on the market!

So EP fans, root for the best, hope we win and we'll be forever grateful!!

Really not much else has been in progress lately, Richard is back in school since the Holidays are over and Mike has ventured back into the depths of Toronto to aquire a degree of being a Youth Pastor. That's pretty much it for now, sorry it's not a big post, but it is one I suppose. Ciao.

Entering a New Decade

Happy New Year!

We have a strange new responsibility upon us to remember not to put 2009 on the page anymore because it is now 2010! You must also ask yourself...will you be saying "two thousand-ten" or "twenty-ten"? Personally, I think twenty ten has a nice futuristic ring to it.

If anyone remembers, last year Effed Productions made a monetary donation to the IWK with the goal of doubling the size of that donation this year. However, with insufficient t-shirt sales, very little filming activity, and no profit to show for the year. A large donation is unlikely. Maybe next year.

Film Projects

This year was our least productive one (of two) in the history of EP. Of every project that was planned for production over the summer, none were completed. Largely, this is because of other more important commitments...jobs, school, girls, you know...Anyway, we saw this coming, and were not too surprised. If all goes as planned, EP should be more on the ball by next fall.

The Sound Of Music

Yes, the hills are alive! As Oktobre comes to its chilling end the excitement of Aussi-floyd and Megadeth grows greater. But it isn't just local concerts that are stirring the pot for EP members these days.

Recording artist Mike Glendinning and EP are joining forces to create a great short film/ music video called "Don't Panic". The film had always been thought of as a kind of short film with music to help add emotion to the story to sort of compensate for a lack of good acting or a real script. Currently in process is the development of the OST (Original Sound Track) that will be played in Don't Panic. So for Mike and I have only begun to play the track out but so far things look promising!

Farewell to a Fellow EPonian, and Other Stuff.

So, for as of all you EP fans don't know, one of our members has now departed and headed for college in Toronto a few weeks ago to pursue his dream to become a Youth Pastor, Micheal Mularz. He, in our opinion would have to be the best public relations "Go-To" guy that EP has ever had (possibly THE best one we will have), or until we find someone even greater than he was. We will miss you Mike. :'(

EP, lately has been doing a recent video known as "Don't Panic!". It, I will have to say will be one of our better ones up to date, but, it still needs a few tweeks, and scenes, which we never got around to doing, as Rich and I have school and/or work, but it will be up before you know it! So stay tuned in!

We also have a tribute video to Mike now posted via Youtube channel, so if you were a fan of Mike, go check it out and write a farewell post or leave one on our Channel chat! Much Appreciated. ^^

Sorry...I'm Effed!

Just a quick update today. Last week before leaving for a week long trip to New York I threw together the strangest most controversial video that has come out of Shaun's mouth...I mean, youtube.

AR2 Production Update

Film-making Hell

After finally finding a few days to get the filming of AR2 started we were suddenly troubled with the discovery that both of our potential camera operators were not going to be available for the weekend. Doug Stewart, because of bad work hours and Fred Melanson because of an injured foot.

Therefore the planned film session was put at risk once again. In order to solve the problem temporarily a fill-in camera man was found to temporarily work on the project. This person was of course Rob Balser, a film enthusiast attending BMHS.

With our new found camera man and everything else ready, we were ready to film. Unfortunately, the shit was about to hit the fan as the next few days wore on we found ourselves struggling to make progress with the cluttered film location and frequent interruptions from NBCC staff and maintenance workers.

At the end of the two days the footage was dumped and cut together on imovie to reveal some trivial issues involving lighting and choreography. It was also discovered that many of our best shots had unintentionally been taped over during rushed filming and that only the second best shots were available in some cases.

On top of that, the time remaining to finish the filming is growing less and less and the film locations being used are changing in appearance or being demolished!

Our only options at this point are to either call the entire project a write off and cancel it all together, or somehow film early in the mornings before work begins while a camera man is available.

Don't_Panic and AR2

Don't_Panic!

Pre-production steps have begun to take place for the upcoming short film called "Don't_Panic!" The short film is planned on being filmed sometime around August and will likely be the most official short film created by Effed Productions to date. What makes Don't_Panic! so special is the planned original soundtrack for the film as well as the theory behind its creation.

About the Film

Don't_Panic! is a short film that was originally written as a concept for a story told through the use of subliminal messages and symbolic images. The entire script was created over MSN between Shaun Fleming and myself in just under an hour and represents the most original production work that we have created so far. More details on the plot may be released in the future.

The idea for creating an original soundtrack for the film was inspired after Effed Productions was approached by a talented musical producer named Mike Glendinning based in California. Mike praised us for our work on AR1 and became a fan of Effed Productions.

AR2

As production is slowed even further by NBCC's unorganized maintenance schedule, the entire film team is working full time day jobs with impossibly unfortunate hours.

However, despite the complexities we are still trying to find ways to stay on top of the project.

It is possible that we may all have to take a week off work in order to complete the filming without distractions.

AR2-pre-production update

It is now June 01, 2009 and that means we have just a month and a half left to completely film our planned lightsaber fight movie AR2. As the date to start filming creeps closer and closer with every day the more progress towards its preparation there is.

Challenges in film.

Over the past few months Effed Productions has slowed its production of films and script ideas as well as a general drive for filmmaking. This unhealthy issue involving motivation, creative drive and will power is a serious one that will have to be address and resolved if we are to successfully achieve our filmmaking goals. Thinking back to the early days of Effed Productions, with the partnership formed between Shaun and myself, I get a familiar feeling of an overwhelming task at hand that I must now begin to take steps toward completing.

The list of things that need to be done before filming can begin is long. I am however, confident that with the familiar excitement of filming AR1, we will all be compelled to make AR2 as much as a success for ourselves if not for any fans of our work. We are after all only doing this because we want to.

Lightsaber test.

It had been over a year since my last strenuous encounter with the notorious Adobe After Effects lightsaber creation. I had become lost in the complex terminology of its editing tools and I had to re-teach myself how to create the most important part of what makes a lightsaber fight, a damn good lightsaber fight...the special effects!

EP's Fast Approaching B-Day?

Good afternoon, everyone!
As you all know, the date to start filming/releasing of AR2 is still not confirmed yet, but we will ensure that you EP fans will be posted on further information; so keep in touch with us!

- Filming will be commencing soon, since we want to make a short film to tie everyone in til the arrival of AR2 when it hits Youtube. Of course, followed by a few other skits/comedic pieces to get people laughing.

-We actually had a thought of making up a music video and a song to go with it, not sure if the idea is scrapped, but keep in touch, and I'll let you know about the info. Along with "Cooking with Metal", Bronwen (Richard's girlfriend) wants us to do a remake of the video we did last year. It had no script, badly done, but it was overall a lot of fun. But that idea is scrapped so no use crying over spilled milk.

No Supper Tonight Folks

Well, it looks like our video didn't make it to the top 5 in the Dorito's Contest. It was actually decent we found. nice ring to it, and the Slogan/Video went well too; but still no chance to win $25,000 for us..aw well, maybe another contest, like C103 (for all you NB fans out there) where we currently can enter at a crack to win $1000, still not as much as 25k, but its something isn't it?

On another note, it has been quite some time since EP has updated our official EP Blog, so I thought that I would spruce it up a bit with another blog note, or whatever you call them.

Just a reminder, our BIGGEST project is yet to come, AR2(Abusive Relationships II) , which will be filmed during the summer season of 2009. Our other (now referred as) "side projects" will be completed once we finish AR2 and still have enough time before the college season kicks back into high gear.

So in case you didn't know, the ones that will be pushed back are :

-Don't Panic!
-High Stakes.

We will most likely have small projects that won't take that long to complete, but these are the big ticket projects along with AR2, (which will most likely be the only big one we'll complete).

Dorito's Contest

After Mike's cunning idea; we at Effed Productions have confirmed that we are going to enter the Dorito's Contest to have a shot to win $25,000

First off, to clear things out, yes it was Mike's idea for us to make a Dorito's commercial, but it was Richard who entered us into the contest, so they both get the credit, while I (Shaun) am still trying to think of a name for a new Dorito's flavour that will grab attention to potential buyers.

Now, all we have to do, is buy one of Dorito's mystery bags with the ? on it, and decide what kind of flavour will bring the audience's attention, and if our commercial is well done. We then post it on www.doritosguru.com and wait for viewers to check out what we have in store for them!

Let's just hope that Moncton's own Effed Productions comes home with an extra $25,000 in their bank accounts!

RFN-Running from Narnians

On February 21 Narnia adventure two was released on youtube and so far it has received some positive feedback. If you were paying close attention to this new video you might have noticed a few things about it. For example, I am totally rocking 'teh chez', there was a Nazi cyborg, and also that it was probably the most effed video we have made to date. Apart from these things, some of which I might touch on later, you may also have noticed a significant amount of visual editing and film stylization through color correction. If that sentence was to confusing, you may have noticed that while editing I made everything look like as if the person who films CSI was doing it.

Don't agree? Ok, so maybe this was my first time and there were a few shots that didn't turn out so good...I'm not saying it was perfect. Anyway, the reason I'm pointing this out is because the films being made this summer will very likely rely heavily on this type of visual editing for full emotional impact. Hint, hint...

Ok, so how about that Nazi thing?

Well, first of all, the idea of a Nazi Robot was inspired by the a video called "Running from Nazis" and was originally meant as a kind of "Homage" to the work. Appearing as a kind of cameo guest is Keith Alward, who plays the human Nazi that comically runs away toward the ending. Keith was a key person in the production of the original Running From Nazis videos, so we felt that if we were going to write a Nazi Robot into out script it was only appropriate that we add Kieth as a support character.

As you can see, it was well worth the effort to have a Nazi Robot appear in our video. You can expect our next release sometime after March break.

IWK Donation

While walking around the Champlain Mall this weekend Shaun, Mike and Myself stumbled upon the IWK Donation Booth set up by C103.1 (Moncton's Classic Rock) Radio Station. Mike was the first to be pulled in by the opportunity to help small unfortunate children to better their lives and Shaun and I were pulled in to donate as well. In total, between the three of us we donated an impressive $58.00! The donation acceptors were very pleased by our cumulative donation and seemed almost overjoyed by our generous contribution.

It was at this moment of inspiration that I decided that helping to support charitable causes such as this should become an annual goal for the Effed Team. I hope that next year we will be able to finds ways to double our contribution to the community.

As a non-profit organization Effed Productions has already generated a small amount of income that was put towards lighting equipment. Hopefully, as we become more talented in our film making, we will be able to raise more money.

Without A Box

So just recently, Richard was told by Fredric Melanson about this site which is filled with Professional/Amateur Filmmakers called www.withoutabox.com .
So from now on, we'll be putting all our new stuff on there, and Youtube as well.
All of our serious stuff will be there for sure, which entitles us to be put onto IMDB and in film festivals if it is good material. Our "effed" videos will only be on YouTube and not on Without a Box since we want to look like professionals in case we rank in on our audiences, and maybe have more fans of our work.
For all of our fans, we'll have some new material up asap in the summer, and you'll see some "effed" ones eventually as mentioned in the previous posts.

Last night at around 9 pm in a relatively quiet Tim Horton's Restaurant Mike, Shaun and I filmed our very first Effed Productions Video Podcast. After sitting down with a trio of hot-chocolates and waited for Mike to stop talking to his lovely 'gee eff'', Kayla, I turned on the camera and began filming.

For those of you loyal readers out there who remember our debut release of AR1 at BMHS and have since then been thinking "whatever happened to the sequel they were making?". The truth is that a sequel was in fact written and filmed. However, due to unforeseen and unfortunate events, our film schedule was cut from 2 weeks to 2 days over night!

With this "change in plans" we were force to film the sequel without proper preparations and in the end, despite our best efforts, the 8 hours of actual film time was not enough to get the results demanded in the script.

The original script has since then been dismissed as a failure and the entire project is being started from scratch.

Lets just hope that Mike has what it takes to carry the torch!

Well, I hope you enjoyed that little tidbit of fun-facts from the past because I have run out of things that I am comfortably able to say for today.

Expect more Podcasts to pop up later in the months with some hopefully exciting details about our summer production plans!

Welcome! I suppose this is Effed Productions first official blog post. This blogspot will be mainly dedicated to updates on our film projects as well as a few other things regarding events and online discussions.

For the people reading this wondering who "we" are, we are the Effed Team. And you can check us out on youtube here.

It is important to mention to you that we are not making any more films until the summer of 2009. Until then it is likely that a few "effed videos" might pop up, but our long term goals for the summer should result in the creation of several short films.
